Video Shows a Glimpse of Ableton Live 7 and the New Drum Rack

Drum_rack_001_2

The new Drum Rack goes WAY beyond Impulse. It combines beat slicing and midi-automapping of slices (like Fruity Slicer or pHATmatik PRO) with kit building. It also supports REX files. It has a great system for supporting multiple grouping of pads (looks like in groups of 16). There is a vertical scroll-bar interface that allows you to "focus" on sets of pads. The set that is in focus automatically maps to your controller - awesome.

Ableton has posted a video to it's web site that illustrates all this and a lot more. It's not on YouTube yet, but if you go here http://www.ableton.com/live-7-whats-new, then scroll down the page till you get to the section Introducing the New Drum Rack.

Ableton Live 7 Announced - Release Date Before the End of 2007

Live7_001_sm_2 After much anticipation (and speculation on the forums), Ableton has announced Live 7. Along with Live 7 Ableton announced new add-instruments that integrate with Live. The release date is before the end of 2007".

After spending about 30 minutes on their site (it's actually a fair amount of information to "get your mind around"), I decided to post a brief list of what's new with some links so you could read more.

I'll dig deeper into what appears to be a fantastic release in upcoming posts.

What's New in Ableton Live 7

  • REX support
  • New Drum Rack (this looks fantastic!). The slicing feature fills a Drum Rack with the individual hits from REX or audio loops. The original sequence is represented as a MIDI clip, making it easy to replace, reshuffle or re-record the events and process them individually.
  • Time signature changes in arrangement and scenes view
  • Sidechaining
  • Automation lanes can be with reordering via drag and drop
  • Tempo nudge
  • Enhanced audio engine
  • New compressor
  • Video export
  • Device High-Quality modes
  • EQ Eight—new and improved
  • Spectrum device analyzer
  • Improved MIDI timing
  • Easy hardware integration (External Instrument device handles MIDI and audio routing and can be used to streamline the routing of hardware synths...External Audio Effect device routes audio to and from user-specified ports of your audio hardware...).
