"9 Box" AudioCubes Interactive Installation will be at Mountain Oasis Festival 2013 at Dr. Bob’s Interactive Sonic Experience

Mountain-oasis-9box

HUGE news! I’ll be helping out the awesome The Bob Moog Foundation at the Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit. I’ll be flying out to bring my multi-player "9 Box" Percussa AudioCubes casual instrument/interactive installation to be a part of the “expanded Dr. Bob’s Interactive Sonic Experience”. What an honor! I can’t wait. If you'll be at the fest come say hi.

http://mountainoasisfestival.com/dr-bobs-interactive-sonic-experience/.

The Bob Moog Foundation brings sonic inspiration, engagement and education to Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit with an expanded Dr. Bob’s Interactive Sonic Experience. Featuring an array of synthesizers, theremins, effects, oscilloscopes and more, the Interactive Sonic Experience will be open to all ages from 12:00-6:00pm each day of the festival in the lobby of the Diana Wortham Theatre. The community is invited to explore the sonic universe and learn about the fundamentals of synthesis through hands-on interaction with a range of incredible electronic musical instruments. Marc Doty, Education Specialist for the Bob Moog Foundation and highly esteemed synth demonstrator with over 5 million views on YouTube, will be present throughout the festival to guide attendees through the Interactive Sonic Experience.

New to this year’s set-up will be Boulder-based electronic musician and performer Mark Mosher who will be bringing his multi-player “9 Box” to Dr. Bob’s Interactive Sonic Experience.
Part collaborative instrument, part interactive installation – the 9 Box allows up to four casual players to instantly make music and shape sound using smart wireless sensor cubes called AudioCubes made by California-based Percussa. In addition to being a source of musical inspiration, the 9 Box and AudioCubes are becoming popular as a teaching solution in STEM schools.

See You at The Pacific Northwest Synthfest March 16th in Seattle

I’ll be flying up from Boulder to Seattle next weekend for the Pacific Northwest Synthfest on March 16th. I’m playing my Dark SciFi Controllerism set with original songs from my albums along with some unreleased material. I’ll be debuting my new 2013 show with interactive visuals with live camera input (teaser photos here) and will perform a 45 minute set with Q&A at 11am. I’m really looking forward to hanging out with fellow synth enthusiasts in Seattle – woot!

The event is FREE and you can find more details on their Facebook page. Here is a summary of the event.

The MMTA Spring Synth Fest 2013 is scheduled for March 16, 2013 at Shoreline Community College just north of Seattle. It runs from 10:00am to 5:00pm. There will be four rooms this year:

The Petting Zoo: Show off your gear. See other people show off their gear. Touch it. Pet it. Love it.

The Performance / Telepresentation Room for performances and presentations that run throughout the day.

The Trade Show Room where manufacturers will be able to give demos on their gear. This is similar to The Petting Zoo but will likely be a quieter setting where you can go one on one with individual manufacturers.

Jam Session Room. This room will be one big day-long jam session that you can join and leave as you please. Everyone welcome!

See You At the Festival

I’m excited to announce I’ll be returning to Electro-Music 2012 Festival in NY for the third year running. Here is a blurb for my events that will appear in the program.

Friday Sept. 7, 10:30 PM - Expressive Visual Controllerism Concert
In his third year at Electro-Music, Mark will continue to explore the boundaries of controllerism with Ableton Live coaxing even more expressive real-time performances out of his various virtual synthesizers. It’s all about original sci-fi techno songs and experimental improvs filled with classic and signature synth ear candy performed on keys, grids (Launchpad/Tenori-On), Theremin, AudioCubes, and Lemur.  Visual feedback FTW!

Saturday Sept. 8, 4:00-5:00pm - Creating and Controlling Signature Sounds
with Camel Audio Alchemy
Alchemy offers a great blend of performance features combined with deep synthesis, sample manipulation, resynthesis, granular synthesis, and built-in FX. There is also a mobile app that can act as a wireless multi-touch controller for Alchemy on your computer.  The goal of this talk is to shorten your learning curve so you can start creating your own expressive signature sounds for production and performance. Topics will include: Anatomy and signal flow, programming walk-throughs, tips on incorporating field recordings into patches, overview of modulation mapping, overview of FX, and performance mapping.

Video Highlights from Mountain Skies Electro-Music Festival 2012 in Asheville by Hong Waltzer

performance04_photoby_hong_waltzer

Last weekend I had the honor of participating at the Mountain Skies Electro-Music Festival 2012 in Asheville, NC. It was my first time in Asheville and the first time for this particular event. Greg and Hong Waltzer and the rest of the Mountain Skies crew curated a wonderful lineup of artists who turned in some incredible performances. Hong shot and edited these video highlights (and shot the photo above) which give you a good sense of the diversity of acts and what it was like to be there.

I also want to give a shout out to Michael O’Bannon who was created visuals for my performance.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

http://www.franciscolopez.net/

Francisco López is internationally recognized as one of the major figures of the sound art and experimental music scene. Over the past 30 years he has developed an astonishing sonic universe, absolutely personal and iconoclastic, based on a profound listening of the world. Destroying boundaries between industrial sounds and wilderness sound environments, shifting with passion from the limits of perception to the most dreadful abyss of sonic power, proposing a blind, profound and transcendental listening, freed from the imperatives of knowledge and open to sensory and spiritual expansion.

He has realized hundreds of concerts, projects with field recordings, workshops and sound installations in over 60 countries of the five continents. His extensive catalog of sound pieces (with live and studio collaborations with over 150 international artists) has been released by more than 250 record labels worldwide. He has been awarded three times with honorary mentions at the competition of Ars Electronica Festival and is the recipient of the Qwartz Award 2010 for best sound anthology. An overview of selected works can be found at Transphormetic - http://transphormetic.com -, as well as information on performances, lectures and exhibitions. He is a researcher in the field of procedural art, computational design & earth processes.
